Denali
was originally rescued by a local shelter. I had never had my own cat,
I had always had dogs as pets. I decided to stop by the shelter and took a
look at the cat area. She saw me walk up by a window where the cats can perch
and look out. She kept trying to keep my attention by rubbing the window and
standing up to investigate me.
One positive thing about the shelter is that cats have their own little
house, with separate rooms, complete with windows, climbing apparatuses,
fresh food, water and toys, no cages in sight. I stepped into the room where
the most kittens were, and Denali continually jumped onto my leg. I would set
her down to look at all of them, but she insisted on staying on my leg. When
I walked out of the little room, she darted out ahead of me as if to say.
"Let's go!" That settled it right there.
That was in November of 2013, and she has been my constant companion since.
She is strictly an indoor cat, but that doesn't seem to bother her as she has
over 1700 square feet of our home to explore. She is my confidant when I want
to talk without interruption. It is hard to imagine what life would be like
if she wan't a member of the family.
