Lucy Soosy Sousen Mouse was a mother before she was a year old. I feed ferals and
was driving my route one afternoon about seven years ago when I saw her outside an empty
house. After seeing her a couple more times, I took her, because I live in a bad
neighborhood for animals. If you see a loose dog or cat, you can be quite sure they are
homeless. Lucy was friendly. A friend came the next day and saw her and told me she
was nursing! (I had thought maybe she was pregnant! Though I have many rescued cats, all
are fixed and I haven't had experience with mothers!)
We drove back the five blocks where I had taken her, and sure enough, two gorgeous
medium long-haired kittens were crying. I reunited them all in my bathroom, and soon
found homes for the kittens via an ad with two college roommates (who came only for one, but took
both). Lucy has been with me ever since. She's a beauty, and as sweet as they come,
though she has terrible nails and refuses to allow a trim. I have thrown away at least five
tshirts from her kneading my chest.
One strange thing about her is that she has never ever leaves the living room/kitchen
area of my small house to check out the office, my bedroom, or the extra room devoted
to cats. Never. She stays in the front. My bed is hugely popular with the others, so it's a
bit weird. I adore her.
