Mitza (pronounced just like "pizza" but with an "m") is a feral stray my family found ten years ago in a small town in northern Alberta; she was just a small kitten with a giant head and giant paws back then!
Without even knowing what kind of past she had before she found us, I can say that Mitza is such a strong, loving cat. We almost lost her twice - once was during the first year after we found her when she got stuck in a manhole for several days, and the other time was due to a bad vet experience two years ago. She pulled through thanks to my mom's good judgement and she's back to 100% health!
She turned approximately eleven on March 15 of this year and she's still going strong. She's a hyper, super (and I do mean super) talkative cat who loves people - she will literally run up to greet random people on the street, meowing loudly at them, while tugging me along (we taught her to walk on a leash after the manhole incident), then rolling on the ground at their feet. I think she thinks she's a dog sometimes, as she'll often stroll up to dogs to greet them!
She was a great huntress in her youth, terrorizing my dad who had to clean up the "gifts" she left at our doorstep (dead mice, mice guts, birds, dragonflies, etc.) and causing my mom to panic when she brought live mice in the house! She even caught a squirrel once! I think part of that prowess is still there despite old age, every time she wiggles her big butt to get ready to catch that laser pointer or that grasshopper in our backyard. Luckily, I keep her away from the birds and mice now though!
Her favorite food is, surprisingly for an Albertan kitty, seafood (not beef!)! Shrimp is her favorite "dessert" after she eats her fish dinner. But I think nothing beats the bag of Temptations treats in the end!
They do say pets take after their owners (or is it the other way around?)! I still get a laugh seeing her sit in the recliner on her back like a human, bent in the weirdest of ways, or mimicking my dad's sleeping positions! She copies my and my mom's vocal patterns, and sometimes I get the impression she was raised by a dog with how well she listens and learns!
As she's into her senior years now, I realize how fast 10 years have gone by, but she's brought so much joy and love in my life. She's been emotional support and we learned from one another -- I had to learn how to take care of a cat (and speak cat hehe) and she had to learn what it means to live with humans and our weird habits. It's been such a rewarding life experience and I feel so, so blessed and thank God that we found Mitza and decided to make her part of our family. Here's to many more years of purring, cuddling, and talking!!
