Iarwin was rescued from a friend's barn along with his sister Dolly when they were four months old. He was very friendly despite being a barn kitten and was very intent on staring at us with those big blue eyes of his. It took us an embarrassingly long while to realize that he is quite deaf. He is very affectionate to people, but is pretty much a stinker to our other cats. Sometimes, he walks around with a swagger and a look on his face and you just know he's about to stir up trouble.
Being deaf doesn't slow him down too much in most respects, but boy can he sleep! He snores loudly at times and has nightmares that cause him to wake up yowling. He has no "indoor" voice and will yowl at top volume at 3 am just because he wakes up and is lonely or scared. Luckily, it's easy to snuggle him back to sleep. Getting back to sleep yourself is not always so easy though.
He likes to sleep for hours on the front porch or deck in the warmer months, but when it's time for him to come in you have to be careful how you wake him up. It's usually best to try to cast a shadow on him. If you touch him, even lightly, his entire body jolts up in surprise and panic.
He is a stinker, but we love our Darwin!
