Our Penny is the roommate and "sister from another mother" of Kaia, a 98-pound German Shepherd. Penny came to us from the local county shelter. We have many nick names for her. One of which is "Penny the Pirate" because of the small black tuft of hair under her chin that looks like a pirate goatee and the way she tends to squint her left eye more than the right, giving her a sort of "Popeye the sailor" look.
Penny is also a predator. She is maybe the best mouser ever. She has decided that the cat door we put in means she brings us all of her conquests, of which there have been many. If it can fit through the cat door, it's probably been in here.
Penny has a very extensive vocabulary and often engages in long conversations with us and she definitely has a lot to say. Penny loves to have her big sister Kaia chase her, and even though she just can't bring herself to curl up with huge a GSD for that special picture, she clearly enjoys having the protection and company of her big sister. When my girlfriend and I sit and talk on the couch, both pets always gather around as if a meeting has been called and they don't want to miss anything.
We love our precocious little Penny and we are very lucky to have saved two such wonderful animals so full of life and personality.
