Tobias or "Bias" to his friends is a Norwegian Forest Cat, born on July 6th, 2009, and is a FIFe registered (PT) CPF LO 014090 and he came from a long Norwegian forest cat family of certifies all by FIFe.
My daughter was born on July 8th, 2004. In October 2009, we had another lonely cat at our home, named Sushi, at the time was 10 years old. My daughter did started a long discussion about having another furry friend! Her grandmother, who it is a recognized veterinarian in Portugal, suggested a Norwegian cat forest for their behavior and did point us in the direction of a also certified breeder of them in Portugal, not far from our home. We contacted her by telephone and I took my daughter at the place, saying the whole way, "Sara, we were informed that there is only one cat left from the litter, so the chances of him and us liking each other is small!" It was love at first sight! The little Tobias, when he saw Sara, played with her immediately, went around her, smell her, and it was love!
We all came back home, and my wife was initially very impressed. She and the current cat, the old one, Sushi, came to see and smell the new one Tobias! I was afraid of some growling, but to my surprise, Sushi and Tobias became Friends immediately. They sniffed each other, and Sushi laid down in front of him, Tobias played a little and at his turn, Tobias did also laid down in front of Sushi. In about a couple of minutes, Sushi took Tobias to the litter box, and to the water and food plates! For the next two to three hours, we could see both of them, together, playing around the house, every room, every little corner.
Tobias came with a small green rag toy given to himby the breeder and, for the next couple of days, Tobias and Sushi were always playing with each other and with the green rag toy! In his first night at our home, Tobias stayed with my daughter in her bed, cuddled with her, and during the night, Sushi went there just to see how things were!
The following days, my daughter did started calling Tobias by his short name, "Bias" and he became increasingly responsive to "Bias!" Since that time, where Sara is in our home…you can bet that Bias is there also! At night, just after Sara goes to bed, Bias use to came to the sitting room near me, for about a half hour of cuddling, specially on the left side od his head! But when he requires fresh water or new food, he goes to my wife and by now, he knows all our rhythms at home!
Even today, Bias does enjoy playing with his little green rag all around the house, and every time his toy goes beneath the sofa he comes miauing to one of us! It is a special type of miau that we immediately recognize. When at the school hours are done, Bias, like clockwork, goes on top of my daughter's bed to see the street and, as soon as my wife's car goes by, he just runs to the door! If I am at home, working, even if I do not look at the watch, if Bias is at the door, it is because Sara is about to enter!
Last year, on June 16th, Sushi died at 16 years old. Bias was sad for a long time, walking around the house looking for his friend. Sushi used to have a little toy bear, "brown-monkey," and since he departed to the stars, Bias He is always with my daughter, but also on patrol all over the house, going to the door to receive the visits with a quick sniff and a look that says "You are welcome, but this is my place and you must be good to my humans!"
This last spring break, Sara went with some school colleagues for a short holiday and my wife and she started to pack. As usual, every time Sara does her packing Bias goes into the suitcase! This year we caught him in a photo!
During the day, Bias enjoys catching some morning sun in winter time, and in summer he enjoys the shade on the balcony. There he does try to "speak" with some street cats, or some doves or even some seagull that sometimes do appear in the roof of the other street side house! Bias enjoys some particular music styles, "The Toppers," "James Last." but because my daughter's music choices are different, every time she decides for her type of music, Bias says some miaus and gets out of the room!
This is our Bias, a decisively important Family member!
