Our precious "Princess" Daphne was lost in May to incurable digestive issues. Our eleven-year-old Maya was an only cat once more. By August, we were ready to find Maya a companion, and found, at Toronto Animal Services, a six-year-old brown and white mackerel tabby tom cat. We named him Henry, and he fit into our home and family without difficulty.
Maya accepted him with a few reservations and the two are developing a relationship with Maya as senior cat (of course)! One reason we chose a younger cat was to encourage Maya to get some exercise and hopefully lose a bit of weight. The jury is still out on that issue!
Henry is as sweet as he looks, and needs only some reminders about staying off the counters and the china cabinet, among a few other places. He is not enthusiastic about being groomed, and we are working on that, since his coat is very fine and mats form easily. He loves to sleep on his back, and shows no concern for feline decorum.
It appears that he carries some Maine Coon genes. He has a long body, thick coat complete with guard hairs, ear and toe tufts, an impressively long, full tail, and a long muzzle.
So far the only fuss he has made is at nail-clipping time. He struggles and wails piteously throughout the "ordeal." His recovery is instantaneous as soon as he finds his "after pedicure" treats.
We are delighted with our new family member and it appears Maya likes him as well. Two cats are definitely better than one! Rescues are the best yet!
