Keiko was born in a vacant lot in Hollywood, and at about five weeks old wandered out of the lot and onto the streets. One morning a friend of mine who lived in the apartment building next to the lot, went to his car parked on the street. He started the car but for some reason that morning didn't turn on the radio. And moments after he drove away he heard a squeaky meow! He stopped immediately and lifted the hood and there was Keiko (as yet unnamed) curled up on the car battery! He took her in, cleaned her up and thought he'd keep her, but she was too much for him and was literally climbing his drapes to the top. So a mutual friend had learned that I'd recently lost my black cat Luna to FIV (As an FIV cat she had to live away from my other cats, at my art studio/gallery). My friend texted a photo to me of the kitten sitting on his shoulder, and it was love at first sight.
I visited her and decided she must be the new gallery cat. But with a family car trip planned for a few days later, I didn't know what to do. The vet said to crate train her, which sounded crazy, but I decided to try. I brought Keiko home (first before the gallery), then got her a crate and we took her on a four-day car trip. She became accustomed to the crate right away, and now commutes to work with me almost daily, happily riding safely in her crate.
She has risen the ranks from a stray in Hollywood to the CFO (Chief Feline Officer) of Paragone Gallery in West Hollywood. She manages two Golden Retrievers who visit regularly. She also likes to lie around on the printers, computers, and occasionally tries to lay on art that is left out for clients to view. Naughty kitty!
She loves her two dogs at home and hangs out with them, all three laying on the floor together. The three seem to particularly enjoy laying around the piano when I practice. She is the most delightful cat I've ever experienced. What a joy to have this special little creature in our lives.
