The way that Cleo's life began is still a mystery, but ever since she was adopted from an animal shelter and meowed her way into the hearts of my family, you don't need to look for clues to see that she's a special cat.
Cleo was most likely born on the streets of Newark. It's tough to think about my little girl without food, water, or toys and in who-knows-what type of a situation. But still, that's where she came from. And from the bottom of the barrel there's only one way to go: up.
When Cleo was a few months old, she found herself in the Newark Animal center, where their rate of "putting cats down" is unfortunately and shockingly high. Cleo was one of the lucky ones; she was part of a "shipment" of about 50 cats to go to St. Hubert's Animal Shelter in suburban Madison, NJ by December, 2016. My little sister, an animal lover, requested a pet kitten for her birthday present last year. I wasn't there while Cleo was adopted, but soon after, Cleo was brought home, introduced to the family, and the rest was history!
Cleo is a happy and healthy cat. She's always following us around and meowing at us, almost as if she is trying to communicate! When I practice cello or strum the ukulele, Cleo is there, listening. When I cook, Cleo is there, watching. When someone in the house takes a bath, Cleo is there, dipping her paws in the water and trying not to fall in. My absolute favorite memory of Cleo is how she, instead of knocking down the Christmas tree like most kitten, cuddled up underneath with all of the presents and the little nativity scene. What a cutie!!
Cleo has made my life so much happier. So, I hope these pictures bring a little bit of joy to your life as well! She is a testament to the amazing qualities that shelter cats can have!
