Say hello to Billy. He's been part of my family for a little over three years. At 11 years old his first family was unable to provide him a home, so he was surrendered to the local animal shelter. A common reaction towards people who give away senior pet is disgust, While it is not something I would choose to do, it is a far better option then just abandoning them to "fend" for themselves in the "wild." Besides, if they hadn't, he would not have joined my family, and in such a short time he has brought me so much joy.
Billy is the purrfect example of what is so great about senior cats. He's a loving gentleman, with a frisky side. He has a mighty purr, and silky soft fluffy fur. Billy is one smart cat, he quickly took to walking on a leash and has learned a few tricks too.
Billy and his furry brother, Vindaloo, don't always see eye to eye, while his sisters both dog and cat think he is fabulous (and he is).
As a volunteer at a shelter, I see older cats over looked for those adorable younger ones time and time again. I certainly understand the concerns with selecting an old cat, They may not be around as long as a kitten could be, but the love they offer is priceless. I'm so thankful for the time I've had, and the many years ahead with this magnificent orange fluffy feline.
