Louis, approximately ten years old now, and we've had him for about eight years now. Louis showed up on our front porch one winter day cold and hungry. He was such a beautiful cat that we assumed he belonged to a neighbor, and had gotten outside. We looked on local websites, contacted our neighbors through our homeowners' association page, but could find no one who would claim him. We did, however, see posts that described a cat very much like him wandering through our neighborhood for over a year! So, he eventually found his way to us, but he was terrified of us. He would run if we came anywhere near him.
But over weeks and weeks of leaving food out for him, talking to him, and trying to get closer to him, he eventually realized that we were not going to hurt him, and we brought him into our house. After a few short days of adjusting, he fit in like he'd been there for years. He gets along with his other cat friends in the house, he loves to sleep on the couch with my wife, and he likes to keep watch over his former outside domain from the safety of the inside of the screen door. He made such a transformation in the first couple years that we had him, from an absolutely petrified near-feral cat, to a loving, playful, beautiful indoor cat. And since that time, he has bonded so well with my wife, and you rarely see her on the couch or in bed at night without her "Lulu" next to her.
