Tigger the Domestic Shorthair Tabby, the Cat of the Day
Name: Tigger
Age: Sixteen years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic Shorthair Tabby
Home: Harlem, New York, USA

Tigger came to me all the way from Miami, Florida! One day, he strolled up to my coworker's parents' house in Miami but couldn't be invited inside because their black lab didn't get along with cats and her father hated cats. That's where I came in. I had recently lost one of my elderly cats to illness when my coworker walked into my office and presented me with a Polaroid of this handsome fellow, whom her mom had dubbed "Tiger." It was love at first sight.

Tigger, as he came to be called, was approximately a year old when he arrived in New York. About a year after he came to me, he started developing urinary tract blockages that eventually required expensive surgery, but to me it was worth every penny to save his life. Everybody who meets him falls in love with him, although he can be a bit standoffish until he gets to know you better. Even my coworker's cat hater dad was forced to admit that Tigger was a "very nice cat."

Tigger is extremely good-natured and quickly warmed up to the other strays who have found their way into my home and heart over the years, although, as the eldest (and biggest) of six, he's definitely top cat. He's also the most affectionate cat I've ever had. If he's sitting next to me on the couch, I'll lean over and say "Can I have some loving?" and he will present me with his cheek for kisses! He'll then return the favor by covering my face with sandpaper kisses. He's also extremely vocal. We have long conversations in which he implores me for treats and I caution him about his weight (as you can see, he's a bit on the chubby side). As you can imagine, he's almost impossible to say no to. Despite the extra weight, he's very handsome, don't you think? With his gooseberry green eyes and spots, I think he looks a lot like an Egyptian Mau, but who knows what his true lineage is. I love Tigger very much and the feeling is definitely mutual.

I've spent the past half an hour trying to get a picture of Tigger looking directly into the camera but I've come to the conclusion that the flash hurts his eyes so he squints or looks away in every single one of them. My apologies. But I hope you can still tell what a special boy he is.
