Tot was a feral kitten trapped in December of 2017. I decided to keep her as she was sickly, and I didn't want to risk her health with an immediate spay and then a return to the auto repair shop where I feed the colony of ferals. She was tamed very quickly for a feral, further proving that she was special. Her big attitude and often crazy playfulness won me over big time, and though I have 10 other cats, she filled a big hole in my heart from losing five of my very dearest cats in the last two years. ( I love all my pets of course, but some definitely make stronger connections with you than others, and this is especially true with ferals, all of which my 10 are.)
One funny thing she did is to perch on the coffee table or couch arm and then take a swipe at whichever dog walked by. The dogs didnt like it one bit, but it sure amused me! When she was feeling good and was playful, she went all out, just zooming around with a wild look in her eyes.
Unfortunately, Tot's health issues did not go away, and she saw the vet regularly. The lymph nodes in her neck had been swollen since I got her, and she had high fevers that came and went. It's clear she had immune system problems and my vet suspected juvenile lymphoma. Tot died on October first.
It's a sad fact that a large number of cats taken from the street have health issues from a bad start in life. I've lost quite a few at various ages over my 16 years of rescue, but Tot was truly special and her departure has really broken me. What a fierce and fabulous spirit she had, and I will love her always.
