We had a very special cat die on us very young. Nothing replaces a lost pet, but we decided to try and ease the pain by getting another kitty for my mom, because the cat we lost was very special to my mom. We drove 4 hours into Indiana to a house where ragdoll cats were being bred, and that's where we met Jazz and his brother, Sprocket. My mom fell in love with Sprocket, but I fell in love with Jazz, who curled up in my jacket and fell asleep. We brough both of them home, and for a while, Jazz was very afraid of his new home. He'd hide in the sink or behind his tiny brother. But as he grew up and got bigger and braver, his personality grew to be a very sweet, likeable, and cuddly one. Now, he loves cuddles and hugs and kisses, along with exploring and playing with toys (especially his favourite toys, his catnip mice).
But what really makes Jazz special to me is his affectionate nature. He can be a bit crabby towards the other cats and even toward other people, but to me, he is the sweetest cat on the Earth. He rubs his nose on mine, licks my face, hugs my arms, rubs up against me, buries himself under the covers with me...and comforts me when I need it. Jazz is like my light when things get dark, a reminder that not all is bad in this world. He makes me happier than anything else on Earth ever could. I love when he gets playful and runs around like a kitten - it always cheers me up if I'm upset, especially since he's such a huge cat.
Seeing how poofy he gets in the wintertime is hilarious, although he hates being combed. He needs it, though, since his baby-fine fur isn't entirely natural, him being a designer breed, so it mats up easily. It's worth it, however, as he is absolutely gorgeous, and I constantly marvel at how simply and beautifully magnificent he truly is. Jazz is a blessing in my life. I don't know what I'd do without him. He will be four years old on July 12th. He is more than just a pet. He is a friend. My best friend.
