This is Bertie. We found him trying to shelter from the rain under our garden table about five months ago. He was so skinny you could see every bone in his body. He was dirty, cold and clearly hungry.
At first he would shy away from us as he had clearly been mistreated (he was covered in scratches). We knew that if we tried to take him in then he would have run away and we probably would never have seen him again. So instead we started putting a bowl of food out for him, and sure enough as soon as we were back inside the house he would run out from his hiding spot and gobble it all up.
Since then we have put out an old beanbag which he sits on if it's a sunny day and we've cleared out an old dog kennel, which is now his permanent residence, kitted out with comfy cusions etc.
We already have three cats, but they are indoor cats (due to a very busy road nearby), and Bertie likes to sit on the window sills to talk to them through the glass.
Bertie now runs up to us as soon as he hears the back door go. He rubs round like mad, and is so affectionate. I'm glad to say that he has beefed up and is now looking healthy and happy. He waits for us everyday and we know that he will certainally be a part of our lives for a very long time.
