This is my mother's cat, Lucky. She was named Lucky because like a lot of cats, her life might have turned out very differently had she not "lucked out" when my cousin spotted her in the median strip of an eight-lane highway in Florida. She was a tiny, undernourished, flea and ear mite infested, abandonded feral kitten. My cousin handed her off to my mother who had recently lost her 21-year-old Siamese, Sandy. The vet wasn't sure how old she was, but she wasn't really old enough to be away from her mother.
Lucky grew to love my mom and dad but to absolutely despise water. Due to her major flea infestation, Mom had to give her flea baths regularly. Fleas in Florida are a real problem for both indoor and outdoor cats.
Lucky is very affectionate, especially if you brush her (with a vegetable brush of all things) and she recognizes her human sisters (and my nephew who she watches very carefully because of his big feet) and other family members even if they haven't been around for awhile. She will follow my mother around waiting for her to sit down when the weather's cooler. She loves a nice lap!
As you can see from her photo, Lucky has overcome her precarious youth to become a sleek and happy, pampered family member.
