We have special memories of our cat Hoover. She was wandering the streets of Chilliwack, BC, approximately six months old, looking for a loving home. From the moment we brought her inside she wanted to be around us all the time. At first she wasn't interested in being picked up or held, and wouldn't jump on our lap. But in time she did become a serious 'lap cat', and she loved to be held, on her terms of course. She loved sleeping on our bed with us, and would stay all night. In the morning she would try to wake up my husband by sitting on his chest & staring at him. Then the slapping started. She would reach out her paw and tap him on the nose or the cheek to get him out bed so he could get her 'wet' food. If one tap didn't work then the tapping would continue on his other cheek, until eventually she got what she wanted! She loved doing it.
She had a beautiful, loud purr that always brought a smile to our faces. She enjoyed having her nails clipped, no doubt because she knew she would be getting a treat after! She brought much happiness to us. Sadly she developed a large tumor on one of her mammary glands. At the time we were convinced that surgery was the way to go, and for a few months after surgery she was healthy & happy. Then she developed respiratory problems and eventually heart failure. It was the hardest decision we made to relieve her of her suffering, on October 7, 2010. It's been years, and even writing this about her now brings tears to my eyes. We both miss her very much.
