This is Taz, my five-year old white random-bred shorthair with beautiful, luminous eyes. He was abandoned at two years old by his previous owners when they moved, and by the time I got him, he weighed a mere five pounds and was very ill. It took him a long time to trust he was going to be loved forever this time. He wanted to - he would come up and rub against me, or get on my lap, then look up as if to say, is this okay?, and he would only stay a little while.
Now, however, he is a sleek, confident thirteen-pounder who benevolently rules my four-cat household. He has a special companion in Tsarina. They fell in love at first sight, the big white male and the little white long-haired female. He was two years old, she was two months - and they have been inseparable ever since. They sleep together, eat together (she pushes him out of the way if she's extra hungry, and he lets her), chase each other, and take turns playing with their kitty toys. And when Tsarina was spayed and didn't feel well, sleeping inside her carrier where she felt safe, he stayed by the carrier for three days, accompanying her to the food bowl and litter box, then returning to guard duty, until she recovered.
Taz lives with me in Milpitas, California, and wherever I go, Taz will too. Forever and ever.
