Puss was a rescue cat who came to us from an RSPCA shelter along with her friend Tootsie in 2012 aged 3 . They had named her Mary Jane but she never responded to it. At first she was so traumatised by having been turned into the RSPCA by her first family that it took her three years to trust us and become a very loyal and loving girl.
My sister-in-law came to stay and said /come on puss/, whereupon she turned around and her eyes lit up so we deduced that had been her name and she was Puss ever after. She was a quiet, gentle girl who had the loveliest nature though, not a cat to be messed about, she could assert herself when necessary. One souvenir we have of her is a completely ruined hand made silk rug which she chose as a good place to sharpen her claws, but all the other memories are of a sweet natured and very beautiful girl.
Unfortunately she had to have some teeth removed, one of which had an abscess on it, and the infection never cleared up. The vet tried hard with antibiotics for many weeks but, in the end, she stopped eating completely and the kindest thing we could do was to have her sent to the great cattery in the sky. Her friend Tootsie had died only six weeks before and we think she was still grieving for her. Both Tootsie and Puss gave us 8 years of joy and love and they will live in our hearts forever.
