I
would like to introduce my Tortie kitty Nugget. I adopted her last August
6th, she will be five in October. She is a tiny, petite gal with fur like silk.
My next door neighbor died, and he had some renters in the house who then had
to find a new place to live.
Nugget's owner couldn't take her with him, and since I belong to Our
Companions Animal Sanctuary in Ashford, Connecticut, I told him to give her to me when
he had to leave, then I would turn her over to my sanctuary so that she could
be adopted. (I had a seventeen-year-old Siamese at the time and didn't think he would
accept another cat in his house.) Well, I should have known myself better
than that; anyone who comes in my house stays in my house! My little Nuggie
has turned into such a sweetheart in the year I have had her.
The prior owner never took her to the vet for anything; so my "free" kitty
ended up being a $700 kitty! I had to get her all her shots, get her spayed,
etc. He let her go through being in heat for four years! I was furious that
he supposedly "loved" his cat, but took abysmal care of her. Anyway, I lost
my older kitty in May, so I was so glad I had her with me when it happened. I
have since adopted another cat, Murphy, a huge orange boy who also needed a
home, and now I have two babies once again! Nugget is such a sweetheart, and
I am glad I can give her the life she deserves after all she went through!
Nugget does know a trick I taught her. Whenever she is at my head level, like
on my breakfast bar, I say to her "Kisses?" and she will turn her head to the
side so that I can kiss the top of her silky head! And when I am sitting in a
chair and motion to my chest, she will climb straight up and lay on my chest
with her head right under my chin. Since I got Murphy kitty in June, she has
become more affectionate, wanting to sit on my lap, but only for a few
minutes, so that's a good start.
