Hi,
my name's Rebecca and I'm seventeen years old. In December of 2008, my
mom and dad decided to get me a cat to call my own for Christmas. I was
ecstatic when my dad showed me the picture of the black cat he was going to
adopt for me. She had been named Mercedes by the kind people who found her
and brought her to Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority and shelter. She
hadn't been named for the love of the car, though. She was discovered under a
Mercedes Benz nursing four kittens. Her age was estimated at about two years
old. On the 23rd of December, her last kitten was adopted from the shelter.
On the morning of the 24th, she was spayed. In the evening of the 24th, she
came to her new home.
With a bare belly and bright yellow eyes, I fell in love with her as soon as
her curious head popped out of the carrier box. At the age of thirteen, I
bought everything for her; a litterbox, bowls, toys, catnip, scratch-post,
everything! Then we began to bond, and a real personality began to show.
Instead of calling her Mercedes, I shortened the name to "Sadie". She meows
like a kitten, even today, she is about six years old, and she talks with a
high-pitched mew. She's completely black, head to toe, with incredibly soft
fur, I could pet her for hours.
For five years now Sadie has brightened up my days. She loves to chase lazer
pointers and push toys up and down the hall. When she gets into the catnip,
she goes a little wild, which is always fun for the both of us. She enjoys
sitting on the top of the couch, and gnawing on the peoples' hair who have
chosen to sit in front of her. On days when the air conditioning fails, she
sprawls out in every direction to enable easy cooling. On other days, she has
adventures outside, or lays around the house. She acts as if she doesn't have
a care in the world.
But what sets Sadie apart, and makes her different from any other cat is our
nightly routine. She comes inside from a day of exploring, and goes to my
room to eat. When I get into bed, she jumps up, and I hold the covers up. She
goes under the covers and she sleeps like that with me and we cuddle all
night. She lays her head on my arm and I kiss her on the head. What I love is
that every night, she kisses me back.
