Kind: Tortoise Shell
Home: La Grande, Oregon, USA

Ladies and Gentlemen, please meet our most patriotic Cat of the Day! Our Brownie was born on the 4th of July, 2000, and died at 11:11 pm on 11/11/12, which was Veteran's Day last year. I must confess, this first year without her has been horrible; we miss her every day. She was so loved by our family and friends...she would greet everyone who came through the door. Once you acknowledged her and gave her a little pat, she would stop circling around you.

Our Brownie was proud of her belly and loved it when her faithful followers would rub her tummy. We all knew this was "her house" and it was our job to keep her happy.

I'd have to say that Brownie was the daintiest cat ever, and that was saying something for a twenty-pound (9 kg) cat. She could walk on a shelf covered with knicknacks and never touch one thing - he would never ever knock anything down!

Brownie loved birthdays, holidays and any chance to be the center of attention. When she was young we had three other cats; one of them was her sister, Cookie, who is still alive and lives with our son. Even though Brownie never had a litter of kittens, she treated all other cats in her domain as her "kittens." It was "expected" of the other cats to let Brownie have first pick of the four food bowls, and then they could eat from the remaining three. Brownie also loved pepperoni pizza, which we had to limit for her, of course.

As you may have guessed, Brownie was very affectionate, which makes her loss so painful for us. I have had many different surgeries and Brownie was always there to comfort and console me during the healing process. When it was nap time, Brownie would let us know, and then she would always settle down on one of us with her paw extended to touch us in a caring way. As you may have guessed, she was also our alarm clock in the morning, always so punctual.

Brownie was a cat of all seasons and would tolerate the humans putting costumes and weird collars on her or whatever was necessary to celebrate the occasion. As a result, holidays are difficult days for us now without her, but the funny and loving memories we have of her are comforting.

Brownie had this back foot that had a solid brown patch and we always kidded her about her "brown toe." One day last year when my husband was in the yard, this little runt of a kitten followed him around, right up to our front door. I was shocked that he would bring the kitten into the house! By this time, we knew Brownie was sick and wouldn't live much longer, so I think my husband was planning ahead with this little kitten. When we saw the patch of brown fur on her back right foot, same as Brownie's, we were sure. It was even more convincing when Brownie took Brave in as one of her kittens and "told" her what she needed to know for her humans after she was gone.

We were always thankful to God for giving us such a wonderful cat. One day when Brownie first started losing weight and having some health problems, it was God who told me that she would be gone in six months. We knew our time with her was limited and we made the most of it. When that last day came, she waited for her family to be with her before she would leave us. That's the way she was...always loving and caring for her human family. We love you, Brownie, and miss you every day!
