Rudy, the Cat of the Day
Name: Rudy
Age: Eight months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic Short Hair
Home: Volos, Greece

Rudy found me on the 11th of July 2013. I was staying at my aunt's house for the summer, and one night I thought I heard a kitten cry. It didn't surprise me much- the neighborhood had many street cats, which I fed regularly. But early in the morning I could still hear the cries. So, I started looking for the crying cat; soon I discovered a tiny kitten, all skin and bones with its head stuck in a car's tire. I had to get it out.

I have no words to explain how exactly I felt when I held the kitten in my arms after more than half an hour. It was a male, around two months old. Not that gender or age would matter, the moment he looked up at me with his huge, blue eyes I knew I had to keep him. Nothing else mattered. I was captivated. I named him Rudy; my favorite character's name from a book I had just finished reading, and I hid his existence from my aunt for several days. Eventually she found out, but Rudy did his magic again. He was too lovable to resist. Rudy turned out to be a very playful and loving kitten; he'd fall asleep on my chest at night, or keep me company while I was drawing. He loves chewing my drawing pencils but I can't get mad at him. Another thing he loves is food; he'd literally do anything for it. Oh, and playing with water. I thought cats disliked water. But that was before Rudy. Not to mention that he's excellent at opening doors. When I moved, Rudy came with me of course. My social skills are very poor, and I actually had no friends but him. He became my closest friend. I'd talk to him and he would look at me patiently and listen. Months passed.

On October 15th of 2013, I brought home another kitten. She was about fifteen to twenty days old, and a mess. I couldn't leave her. Rudy at first was slightly hesitant with her. Even hissed a few times. Now they're like siblings; playing together, eating together, sometimes sleeping together.

A hard moment for me was when Rudy was neutered. I held him in my arms for almost six hours after the surgery, until he felt better. Then he asked for food, and made me the happiest person in the world. These two cats are literally my everything; I can't imagine my life without them. And it all started with Rudy. I never had a cat before. It is not that I didn't want to have one; I've always admired cats for their beauty and independent character. It's just that I wasn't allowed to. But Rudy taught me how loving can cats be. And I'm glad he decided to adopt me. Because it wasn't me that adopted him; he did.
