I
brought Lucy home two years ago and she has been a lifesaver, helping
me deal with my grief over the recent death of my mother. I went to
the Bergen County (New Jersey) animal shelter looking for an older cat who
just wanted to lay in the sun and curl up on my lap. When I couldn't
decide among the half dozen cats I saw, the vet suggested I take this
one, who at three was a bit younger than I wanted, but she said that black
cats are very difficult to place. So I took her home and have loved
her every second since!
Lovely Lucy climbed into my lap on day one and has turned out to be a
sweet and loud kitty. She was rather nervous at first, but has slowly
warmed up to her new environs. She always mews when I come into a room
to remind me that she's there and wants attention, loves sitting on
the windowsill watching the activity on the street and sits by the
door waiting for my return home from work then demands dinner and a
brushing afterwards. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want such a
darling just because of her dark coat.
