This
is Moochie, who lives with us in south-central Alaska. She is a domestic
shorthair who is at least two and a half. We don't know more than that,
as she was a stray, apparently abandoned at the end of summer, whom we
fed for a year outdoors before she adopted us and came in. Our resident
cats would run her off - but she was persistent, while deferring to the
pecking order. And of course we'd feed her and fix her up a little bed
in a corner of the Porch where no Cat looked. Once our senior black cat
died, Moochie moved right in!
She must have had a home once, for she's become quite comfortable
indoors now, especially in winter, and never scratches furniture. Our
other cats may have intimidated her. She spends a lot of time on a
chair, looking out through the patio door, but never leaving. Knowing a
safe haven when she finds one, Moochie has adapted to our alpha cat
Boo-grrs.
Then we left the little village ourselves and Moochie almost missed that
ferry! We had to snag her and keep her captive for 24 hours before
departure, an unkind cut. She fussed all the way to her new home, but as
the photo shows, she is now content in her new surroundings. This is her
"rub -my -tummy, I'm -so -happy" posture.
Like the others, Moochie has worked her way right into our hearts. Moochie
and her companion cat
Boo-grrs,
a former Cat of the Day, have a page of their own
here.
