This
Mica, she's a Highland Lynx kitten, she's now five months old. She is
special because she tamed my fourteen-pound (6.4 kg) giant male highland lynx when she was only
one pound (.45 kg). I first got Mica because my older cat Nimravis has separation anxiety. I
was so worried when I first got her though, she was so small and Nimravis
could really hurt her if he disliked her. My worries were for naught, they
ended up instantly liking each other after a day of Nimravis not being sure
about who and what she was. She's very playful and is constantly tugging on
Nimmer's tail, despite his howls of displeasure.
A bit about the breed: Highland lynx is a relatively new breed with two types
- the Highland lynx and Desert lynx. Highland lynx have the curled ears while
desert have straight. Because the Desert also carries the curled ears, you
can get both types in a litter, which is a good way to keep the gene pool
larger and healthier. Traits of the breed are longer hind legs (great
leapers, I tell you what), polydactyl paws (Nimravis can open just about
everything with his 'thumbs), a dog-like personality (easily trained to do
tricks- they both play fetch), and they are very good hunters. Bred for their
wild looks and sweet personality, Highland lynx are my favorite breed.
Mica's just learning, so she only knows a few tricks so far - sit, beg,
fetch. She's pretty easy to train and learns faster than Nimravis did. I
think he's more stubborn than her and has to be tempted with treats to do
tricks while she just seems to like doing them. She enjoys the interaction
and is always eager to learn.
