What
makes Jinxi special to me is that he is my first kitten ever. He's
practically my baby and I know he sees me as his mommy. When I first got him
and brought him home, I had hoped by the end of this period, he'd fall asleep
on me and that would forever bond us together. He was scared by everything
and I mean everything. The slightest noise sent him hiding in a corner, we
had to be careful to move around the house quietly as we watched him wander the house.
We made sure Daisey, our 80-pound Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix, was hidden
away on his first day. The next day, I held Jinxi in my arms as we let Daisey
give him the sniff-over. She would have been described as too friendly at the
time, but I was just glad she wasn't aggressive towards him. For about a
whole week life consisted of him staying in my room hiding, climbing the
large scratching post we got him. It took a couple of weeks but finally,
after working on getting him comfortable, he crawled right over me and
plopped right down and fell asleep.
I seriously wanted to jump up and cheer, that after all that work, it had
finally paid off! I was content of having a kitten blanket for that night,
and slept pretty well. To this day, he still kneads me when I lay down and I
am the only one in the house he gives kisses to, too. Jinxi will always be my
baby and he knows that too. My advice to all those pet owners out there,
cherish every moment you have with your pet, the bad and good ones alike, as
they are truly a gift to have in your life.
