This
is Rubycoon Toulouse, he is a Maine Coon Silver tabby with white. What
makes Toulouse special? At first glance it is probably his beautiful
colouring, his eyes and his ear tufts that spectators find attractive. Maybe
it is his long tail. Maybe it is just the way he swaggers around, trying to
imitate Rum Tum Tugger.
For me, though. it is all about Toulouse's personality. He was born a single
kitten in a litter and was helped into this wonderful world by c-section. He
has a ginger with white father, called Heathcliffe and a black smoke with
auburn mother, called Nova. He was bred by a lady called Linda Ann von
Mollendorf in Centurion, Pretoria, South Africa from the Rubycoon Cattery.
He is a playful and intelligent kitten. He loves physical contact. He purrs
loudly when you touch him and he loves sitting on his momma's lap while she
works. When I'm in the kitchen, he follows my every move. He is not allowed
to jump on kitchen counters or tables where we eat and he sits quietly until
he cannot bear the smell of yummy food anymore then he asks with a silent
'meow' if there's anything for him. He gets a little treat every morning
while I'm cooking breakfast and every night while I'm cooking dinner.
After dinner, Toulouse and his 'sister' Bree, are trained to go to my balcony
to sit on a chair so I can groom them. They are both very fond of the
brushing and bi-weekly bathing rituals.
Toulouse is an entertainer. He loves posing for the camera and he loves
showing off when new guests arrive. He knows he is something special and he
proves it to all who are interested. He charms people with a flop over to
expose his belly and then he does a little bit of catnastics just to prove
his agility. He also loves flowers and stops at every flower in the garden
for a good sniff. I have a piano teacher who uses my music room for lessons.
Toulouse stands by the door and makes himself heard until she opens the door
for him. He loves walking on the keys and making his own music. For the
majority of the lesson he sits on the teacher's lap and every now and then
sticks his paw out to play a single note - just to help the students, of course.
Toulouse brought his first prey home about two weeks ago. He had caught a
rat, ate most of it and presented me with the trophy of tail and hind legs.
He had to show me that he is, indeed, a hunter like his breed says he should be.
He is only four months old, but he has brought immense joy and happiness to our
home and family of four. My son was allergic to cats until Toulouse came
along. He is now totally de-sensitised and even sleeps some nights with
Toulouse on his bed. It is the first pet that can come near my son in his 11
years of living. It is a wonderful experience.
