This
is GC Curlniques Let Freedom Ring, Frieda for short. She will be
two years old on July 4th. She is a short-hair American Curl. She is the
only one on the East Coast at the moment.
The American Curl comes in both long hair and short hair and can be
any color you can envision cats coming in. Their characteristic curled
ears comes from a natural mutation that affects the ear's cartilage.
It is a healthy breed. They are very playful and retain their
kitten-like attitude forever. This has earned them the nickname of the
Peter Pan of the cat world.
The first American Curl was found as a stray kitten in southern
California, on the porch of Grace and Joe Ruga. Shulamith, as was was
named had a litter of kittens whose ears were more curled than their
mother's. At that point the Rugas knew they had found something unique
that was worth preserving, so they began to write the breed standard,
develop the breed and begin the process of having the American Curl
accepted by the cat registries. Now all registries accept the American
Curl for competition and breeding.
Frieda is incredibly sweet, always giving head bumps and rubs. She
loves to meet new people at cat shows and is often found either on my
lap or posed on her pillow to accept the adoration of fans as if she
were a princess. For all her elegance she never passes up a chance to
play. Wand toys with feathers are her favorite, but if no one will
take time to play with her, she's just as happy chasing a furry mouse
toy around the house. Most people are attracted to the uniqueness of
the ears but they fall in love with the fun-loving personalities.
Frieda is due to have her first litter of kittens any day now. She is a very special girl!
