When
I wanted to adopt a cat, I decided I wanted an adult cat with
short hair. An adult, because I do a lot of knitting and I didn't want
a kitten playing with my yarn. A short-hair, because I didn't want a
lot of hair around the house. At the cat shelter, I had selected three
cats for my husband to choose from. Josie wanted to be picked up, so I
carried her around. She was six months old and weighed seven pounds.
My husband couldn't decide which of the three I had planned on, but
when I went to put Josie down, she wouldn't go. She hung on to me. So
she chose us.
She was an outdoor cat who was only allowed into the garage at night.
She was abandoned at the county shelter and was scheduled to be killed
when the cat shelter rescued her again. She is the most beautiful and
loving and funny cat. We love her. She now weighs eighteen pounds (8 kg) but still
sits on my lap when I am on the couch, where she can overflow onto the cushions.
When I see tufts of cat hair on the carpet, I remind my husband that I wanted a short-haired cat.
