Special
is the right word for Angel. She was a breeder kitty at a kitty
mill and suffered horrible abuse before she was rescued and taken to a
shelter. When she was taken to the shelter, she was the momma of five nursing
kittens. As soon as the kittens were all adopted, they attempted to place
Angel in a home. But she is so damaged from the abuse she went through
that she is overly timid and scared of everything. On top of that, she has
some behavioral issues. The worst one is that if there is any kind of
change in her environment, she will forget how to go potty in the litter box.
Because of these things, she was deemed unadoptable and was put on the
list to be euthanized. A friend, who worked at the shelter, asked me to
take her so she wouldn't be put down. And of course I said yes! I have had
Angel for nearly four years, and I'm not going to lie, it's been a struggle
at times. Two years ago we moved into a larger house and Angel stopped
using the litter for three months. She has also had issues with bonding. We
have other cats that love to get right up in our faces and demand
attention, but not Angel. She usually stays as far away from us as she
can. But things have been turning a corner lately. All of a sudden one day
she decided to run outside when I opened the door to let the other cats
out. Like I said before, she is afraid of everything!!! So outside is not
a place she ever would have gone before. As soon as I closed the door
behind her (quietly so she wouldn't freak out) she immediately regretted
her decision and started scratching on the door to get back in. But five
minutes later she was back at the door wanting outside. That time I
followed her out and sat with her for half an hour. At first she wouldn't
leave my side, which is unusual, but after a few minutes she laid down and
started rolling around in the sunshine and cleaning herself. Since then,
Angel is a new cat! She even laid on my lap a few days ago!!!
I don't want it to sound like Angel has been nothing but a problem. There
are good things about her, too. Russian Blues are the softest things on
this planet. They are also very quiet. When she meows, which is rare, it's
the softest little meow I've ever heard. And because of all her issues,
when she does ask for attention, it's extraordinary.
