We
found this one when he was about eight weeks old. His mother left him near
the dumpsters at our house and I really tried to look past the little mess
that sat there, all by himself, dirty and obviously miserable. After a day
my husband finally looked at me with a sigh and said "We'll have to take
him in, I guess" and so we did. He's always been one to keep to himself.
If he comes to sit on my lap then I know he's ill. But still- he stuck
with me when I moved out to another apartment after my divorce and he
sleeps on the foot of my bed every single night. He leaves half-dead mice
on my bedroom doorstep, obviously hoping that I will finally get a hang on
how to kill them and take care of myself.
Last Christmas my father brought in a kitten from Sardinia. They found it
after heavy rains in November but their own cat didn't seem to like
another cat in the house. Since I had started to get around a little, due
to a new job, I was keen on getting Indy a comrade.
When I brought her home, Mary Poppins (Poppy) had an infected eye,
couldn't breathe properly (there was something in her throat that I had to
have removed surgically in February) and left a very distinct odour
everywhere she went- due to gas. Well- Indy wasn't happy. He kept sitting
atop my cabinets, watching her sceptically. He wouldn't sleep in my bed
anymore because Poppy would climb in every night and crawl under my
sheets. There was a lot of complaining going on.
After a few weeks though, it kept getting better. We've been a trio for
half a year now and they are the best friends e-v-e-r. They always share
their naptime, Indy shows the little one (and she is little, believe you
me. Born in October, she didn't really have much time to grow until this
spring.) how to catch mice and both of them sleep in my bed at night.
Whenever she's not taking care of herself properly, he cleans her up very
gently and of course from time to time they chase each other round the
apartment for fun.
I am just so happy that the two of them have adapted to each other so very
well and they really are the cutest sweethearts. They're both tigers which
makes it even more adorable to look at, with very similar faces and each
one with a very likable character. Look for yourselves. :)
Luise, proud "mom" of Indy and Poppy.
