Introducing
Leilani (nickname Lani). As I write this, my husband (then
fiance) and I adopted Leilani a year ago today (May 20, 2013). I had been
without a cat for over three years at that point, and really wanted to get a
kitten. We went to the SPCA in Orlando, and I went straight for the
kittens. I sat down in an empty chair, and not even five minutes later, I had
a little tiger pelt kitten with a white tipped tail curled up and purring
in my lap, and we both knew right away that she was to be mine. We filled
out the adoption papers for her (changed her name from Papaya to Leilani),
and the next day we picked her up after she got spayed, and took her home.
My German Shepard, Secret, grew up with cats, and was excited when he
smelled her for the first time, and for a couple of months he would follow
her everywhere around the house, keeping an eye on her. She was his
kitten. At that time she was eight weeks old and just under two pounds.
A year later, she's, well, a year old (her birthday is March 26, 2013),
and is weighing just over eleven pounds. She may grow a bit more in the next
year, but Leilani is already a big girl. She and Secret are best friends,
and she gets along (usually) with our seven-year-old Burmese, Zara, that my
parents gave to us a couple months ago. Leilani loves being a ham, and she
often spends part of the night sleeping on my pillow. Leilani did used to
lick my husband's head at night, and on the rare occasion she still does.
Now she is more likely lick or chew my hair. She also can talk up a storm
when she wants to, and she yells at us if we've been in the bathroom and
didn't let her in. We love her!
