When
my eighteen-year-old cat Teddy died a few weeks ago, I was heartbroken.
Teddy had the role of being my "day" cat, with the role of joining me for
morning coffee and sitting on the couch with me whenever I was home, while
Simon had the "night" role, and has slept with his head on my shoulder his whole life.
Simon, a feral rescued cat, was found as a tiny kitten with his Mom
cowering in the crawlspace of a house that was being demolished not far
from where I lived at the time. He has a lifetime fear of most people
unless I am present in the room.
The morning after Teddy died, to my delight, Simon was sitting in Teddy's
old spot, waiting to have coffee. He later waited patiently on the couch
for me to sit with him. He had never done this before.
To say that he has been a comfort and also constant shadow is an
understatement. One can also not deny that he is an absolutely beautiful
animal. I love and adore him and am grateful he is mine.
