I first met Meri, and her all-black sister, Maggie Mae, when they were babies. That day, I held them both in the palms of my hands where they fell asleep. I was in Love! Meri was my sweet baby girl to be sure.
Meri loved to curl up with me watching TV, or under the covers in bed where she'd press her head against my chin so I could rub circles. She had a sweet little meow, not the gravelly voice of a typical Siamese. When she was four years old, I had to move away and the day I had to leave, I went to say good-bye to her, and she wouldn't even look at me. It was a difficult separation and I missed her every day.
We all got back together again, though, when she was ten and she eventually forgave me though our relationship was never quite the same as it had been. She would sometimes jump up on my shoulders and drape herself across the back of my neck, her claws lightly gripping me. This was okay when the weather was cool, not so much when it was hot in the summer.
She developed a nasty form of cancer on her lower left jaw. I nursed her as best I could, but the cancer eventually ate away part of her jaw and the tumor started pushing against her eye. That's when we knew we had to let her go. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 11/16/13. I still miss her every single day but she is always with me in my memories and heart.
