H
i, my name is Shirley. I wasn't always the plump and contented feline I
am now. Oh, no. Around Thanksgiving of 2006, I was a scared, cold and
hungry kitty desperately looking for love. I was a stray, being harassed
by a big, orange tomcat and several mean looking dogs. I was lost and
trying to find some one to feed me with no luck. But then, I saw this
nice lady working in her yard and knew I could win her over. She tried
to shoo me away at first. She didn't really like cats, can you believe
that? But, finally I convinced her that I wouldn't last much longer
outside on my own if she didn't help me. So, she went into her cozy
house to get me some tuna, and before the back door closed I snuck in
right behind her and scooted into the dining room. That's where you eat
meals, isn't it? Well, she wasn't used to a cat in her house, and she
wasn't ready for me to move in. At least not yet! But I started to work
my charm on her.
After trying to find my owners (no luck ... I could have told her she belonged to me!), she took me to the vet to get checked out and spayed. She was feeding me and letting me stay on her screened in porch at night to keep safe and warm. But I knew I belonged inside her house as a member of her family. She and her dad had lost her mom a few years before and they were still so sad. They needed me! So I worked on them until they finally let me inside for good. Now I am an inside only kitty. Who needs the outdoors? I certainly prefer my safe, warm and cozy home!
My "mom" and I have so much fun together. I follow her around, we enjoy cuddling together and snoozing. And she always hugs me and kisses me and talks to me. She tells me what a sweet cat I am. (I try. Even the vet told her dad that I am the sweetest cat he had ever seen!) For someone who didn't like cats, she certainly has seen the light! (and her dad has grown to love me, too!) I am so grateful to have found my forever home where I will always be loved and taken care of. My family and I pray that all strays will find a home, and we are always so happy to read the stories of your other contributors who have helped animals in need. (we love all the stories from your nice readers about their loved pets)
I support Samford University's Bulldogs. I also root for the Auburn Tigers ... naturally!!
One other story about how I chose my name: my "mom" tried out several names to see which one I would respond to. Finally when she called out "Shirley," I perked up my ears and came running to her. Yes, I am Shirley. That made her very happy because Shirley was the name of her beloved great aunt (and long time animal rescuer) who had passed away a few months before she met me. You see, I knew I had found where I truly belonged!"
