After
loosing our eighteen-year-old Mungo (Pet of the Day on October 3, 1997) we
were ready to give another kitty a furever home. It was to be a cat with a
big personality, who loved to talk and be silly. At our local shelter we came
eye to eye (literally) with a seven pounds (3kg), four-month-old kitten, who the volunteer
said was very chatty. Once out of the cage, he proceeded to run on our
shoulders and give everybody slobbery baths. Of course that was the clincher.
We adopted him and took him to the vet for a meet and greet where he decided
to lick the vet tech's hand too. He has since stopped giving everybody a
bath, but will lick fingers once in a while. The vet tech, though, gets the
evil eye now after one too many poke and prod during annual visits.
Haku have also had a career as a mouse hunter. It was a short, but glorious
career where he in a span of two weeks caught three mice inside the house.
The career ended when we closed the hole the mice entered through.
Today he loves to snuggle on laps, tussle with his "big sister," eight-pound (3.6kg) Ivy as
well as participating in the "Kittyapolis 500" where he and Ivy chase each
other. Haku loves his kibble and wet food while human food is left for the
humans to eat, if he doesn't try to bury it.
