This is our fine kitten Portia. Just because she is grown up and pushing 20 pounds doesn't mean she does not consider herself to be the Number One Kitten in the house. She is most jealous of a recent foster we have. She will run immediately to get between me and the foster anytime I attempt to pet or even play string with the foster kitten. Portia, pronounced Porsch'a around here, is also a rescue, she was born in our flower bed on 7-17-2011 to a feral mother, now rescued.
While most cats are independent, this one sets the bar on that at a new height. She will run over, hop on my lap and march around for 5 minutes, and on occasion will take a nap on my lap, but only as long as I act like she is not there. By the way, it is hard to ignore a 20-pound cat marching about on your lap, just a passing observation. A word, or a pet, and she is off to other places. Then she will return and demand attention, but only for a bit. Strange animal!
Portia retains a strong bond to her mother, and likewise, mother to daughter. Any yipping from Portia and her mother runs to her side to protect and defend. That is a bit funny in itself as Portia is about 50% bigger in all dimensions than Mom. And Mom is no flyweight.
She is a charmer in her own way, a great friend on her terms, and a happy member of the pride of rescues we seem to accumulate. In the group photo Portia is back left kitten. Please spay and neuter and keep your cats indoors only. Indoor cats live 7-10 years longer than outdoor cats, on the average!
