Baby was a stray kitten that showed up at the front door one day and stuck around like she owned the place. It was winter time, so she was let indoors. That's how she got her name - the constant crying. To this day, if she doesn't like something, she will speak up about it. Maybe it was the winter cold, or perhaps it is her Cuban heritage (Havana brown), but she hates the cold and loves warmth. She thinks humans are broken chairs until they sit down. A perfect lap kitty, she starts purring as soon as she lays down on a pillow or cover (a normal lap will do if we have been away for a few days). She is a picky eater; we rotate her food regularly. It took a while to find a good rhythm.
Occasionally, she'll bat at ear buds or a shoestring, and gnaw at them with her remaining two teeth. For an 18-year-old, she acts like a five-year-old (in cat *and* human years). Her passtimes are basking in the sun, sleeping in her covered cat bed with a heat pad, and looking out the window at all of the birds.
A trip to a specialty clinic for hyperthyroidism was costly but well worth the trip. She has a clean bill of health; we hope she is around for another 18 years. We love our Baby!
