This is our handsome ginger tabby, Louie. Louie spent his early life appearing all around our subdivision and neighboring farms yet not allowing anyone close to him. We began to leave food for him and talk to him. Calling out 'little orange cat' soon evolved into Louie; he particularly likes it if spoken with extra emphasis on the last e. He's now a member of the family, joining us officially as we had lost our sixteen-year-old tuxedo cat, Katie.
When Louie was about a year old, his favorite thing was to tickle our small granddaughter by wrapping his tail around her neck as she played with him. And as you can see, he was quite tolerant of her affection, too! This is a favorite picture from that time, though Emma has since grown up a lot, they are still friends.
Louie loves being carried in the crook of my arm, kneading the air with his front paws as we walk. His meow is as subdued as a kitten's. He's loves to play with plastic balls and yarn and waits for a door to close to stick his paw beneath. He still treasures his independence outside but comes home when called and purrs in exchange for hugs.
