This is Happy, also known as Happy-cat and Psycho-kitty. The vet thinks that Happy is now about thirteen but no one knows for sure because Happy was a street-kitty before she joined our home twelve years ago. She usually tolerates her three kitty-siblings, but her favorite hobby (besides begging for food if she can see the bottom of her food bowl) is to hide in the closet or under the bed so she can attack any kitty passing by.
Happy's nickname, Psycho-kitty, comes from the fact that she has some very quirky behaviors. She loves attention from her people, but only if she is on the bed. If she is in any other room and someone starts to give her attention, she will run part-way to the bedroom, turn around, meow, run the rest of the way to the bed, hop up and wait for the loving and attention to come to her (which it always does). She also is very skittish and sometimes can't decide if she should hide under the bed or hop up on it to get attention when her people walk into the bedroom. She gets lots of love at our house (she loves to cuddle and nap with her people and sleeps on my pillow almost every night), but some of her freakiness makes us think she had a very hard life before coming to us. This only makes her more special to us.
One of the most distinctive things about the Happy-cat is her stylishly short tail-do. About six months after Happy joined our home, she started chewing on the tip of her then-long tail. It got so bad that she actually chewed it down to the bone! The vet could find no physical reasons that her tail would be bothering her. Less drastic treatments did not work, so we had the top four inches of her tail cropped. Unfortunately, that didn't work either! She simply started chewing her tail at a lower spot. Just a few weeks after her first surgery, Happy had a second surgery, this one cropping her tail down to a short inch and a half. Now her tail no longer bothers her, and her chic style is the envy of our other kitties.
