Frosty the Orange Tabby, the Cat of the Day
Name: Frosty
Age: Five years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Orange Tabby
Home: Wisconsin, USA

Frosty was found by our friend James as a tiny kitten frozen and thought dead. He picked her up and raced to our house December 30, 2013, looking for help. The dangerous winter and wind chills had been ranging negative 45 to negative 65. They were telling everyone to stay indoors.

She was emaciated. She was frozen - solid. Could not move. Could not close her eyes to blink - they were frozen open. Her ears so frozen I was afraid I'd snap them off.

I stuffed her in my shirt to start warming her while I prepared heating buttons and blankets to slowly thaw her out. She was either going to pass in the night, or be a survivor. The following morning, Dec 31 2013 she was still alive. But she could not even support herself to sit up.

She was syringe fed and syringed water. Unable to support herself to use a litter box she was wiped like a tiny kitten, though she was born end of October 2013. Frosty was nothing but skin and bones. She seemed to be doing okay, but by January third, she was having great breathing issues. She was struggling to breathe with her mouth wide open.

Despite another huge winter snow storm and being told to stay off the streets I packed up Frosty and headed out to Urgent Care. She continued to have breathing issues and would just "Crash". It was determined she needed a neonate ICU where they could give her all the proper extensive care she needed.

It was now the wee hours of January 4th and we were being admitted to the kitty hospital. She was placed in an oxygen incubator and given warming mats. Things were not going well and Frosty had a hard time breathing every time they tried to reduce oxygen. It was one vet that got thinking and stepped outside the box of "normal" and wanted to do a special test for a nasty parasite called strongyloides. She says "nothing else is working, I suspect she may have this, but it's so rare and not common to our area." Tests came back positive and once proper treatment was giving Frosty began to respond positively.

Frosty does wear clothes. She does so as a form of security. She enjoys the snug feeling when stressed or anxious. She also wears them when she is chilled. If she doesn't want them on, there is no getting them on. She will also remove them when she feels she doesn't need them. It's very normal to see Frosty in sweaters and dresses.

We were told if Frosty survived she'd never be able to walk or see and the fear of frost bite was the talk.... Frosty proved all the veterinarians wrong. She can see. She can walk. She can run! She did lose part of her tail to frost bite, but that's it. Just the tail.

Frosty told me that day she was not ready to die, so I became her voice and fought for her every step of the way. Many tried telling me she needed to be euthanized. I didn't listen. Look at her today! She's one happy kitty!!

Frosty has her own facebook page, her own Twitter account and Frosty is also on youtube and amazon wish list.

Because of Frosty and her story, we have also been able to help other kitties that have shown up here in need. Frosty's large fan following from around the world tunes in daily for her updates on facebook and we do silly stuff there as well.

Frosty was given a birthday of 10-27-2013 (based off when James remembers her born). She lives with other kitties in Wisconsin, and is a true miracle story and Survivor.
