This is Big Ron. He is a mean moggy and is the biggest and heaviest cat I know. We named him after a particularly violent criminal from London in the '60s as Big Ron shares many of his charming personality traits. He does not take too kindly to other animals in the house and when dogs come visiting, he draws himself up, waits until they come near and then smacks them one right on the nose. The dogs are then left traumatized but knowing who's The Boss... He is quick to lash out and bite and stares at strangers as if they are in the house to steal the silver. We believe this is when he's doing his Travis Bickle impression. "You lookin' at me?"
He was abandoned in a big country park when little and was quite wild for a time. When we had him, he did not take too kindly to loving gestures and would claw at anything within reach. However, a few years later, he does not draw blood when he bites and keeps his claws sheathed when hitting us. However, my mother bears the scars of trying to pick him up and cuddle him without his permission! He is not exactly thin and when he jumps on you, you are quite often doubled up in pain afterwards. And listening to him running up and down stairs playing with his toys keeps you awake and can give you nightmares!
I wouldn't change him for the world and I do pick him up and give him a cuddle - much to his disgust - because like a true EastEnd criminal: "'E may be a bit violent but 'e don't 'arf luv 'is dear old mum."
Oh, and just don't leave any valuables around him. He likes to steal and play with my gold chains - no doubt before fencing them to get his fix of catnip.
