Basinga was the best cat we ever knew.
He was HUGE ! When he topped 21 pounds the vet told us that we should "watch his weight". This he did not like because the one thing he loved in life more than anything else was eating. He would RUN not walk every time he heard the fork ding against the side of his bowl, skidding and sliding across the floor to get there. It was hilarious !

We found him living under a porta-potty out in the wetlands of Eugene. This was clearly not the life he envisioned for himself and once when we were out on an excursion he came out from under the porta-potty meowing as hard as he could to get our attention. I told my partner to "pay no attention, we already have a cat".
Needless to say, two days later the little orange ball of fuzz was in "our" house and staking his claim.
We tried to give him away but to no avail. He was the cutest thing ever...and was soon accompanied by ANOTHER wetland kitty, Neo.
It was a rough start for Neo since Basinga was not shy about letting him know just whose house this was ! But eventually they totally loved each other and were the masters of all the land. Well, all three acres of it anyway !
Among the many aliases we had for Basinga were: Singe, Bah-sin-Jobby, Tail, Fuzz Bomb, Fuzz Bottom and Big Fuzz. But mostly he was known to everyone simply as "The B".
The two of them were best buddies and caroused, fought, ate and slept together for 14 years.
Basinga eventually succumbed to cancer in 2018. It was unusually sad because in the end he couldn't do the one thing that he enjoyed most. Eat.
We loved him dearly and hope you enjoy these pictures of him in his prime.
