Semi was rescued from an area shelter in 2007 after spending several months there after delivering a litter of kittens a week after she was found. When we took her into the cuddle room, my husband asked her, "Do you want to go home with us?" and she looked up at him and replied with a quick "Meow" and the rest is history. We had just lost our two senior cats months apart earlier that year.
Our pet nanny retired a few years ago and told us we could have her replacement on one condition - "Can I still come see Demi??" When I called her replacement and back-up, who had met Demi before, she wasn't sure who I was. When I told her I was Demi's Mom, she immediately cried, "Demi???? Oh, I love Demi!" Demi apparently rightfully believes everyone who enters our home is there to see her.
Demi has added much love, comfort and entertainment to our home. As a childless couple married over 20 years, she is known more as our "daughter" than our cat. In February, we welcomed Samantha, 15, another solid black female kitty, who was in a foreclosure situation destined for the same shelter as her new sister.
Among others, Demi's favorite toys include a lucite fishing pole with a strip of fleece fabric tied to it, a catnip mouse, and one of my hearing aids (found after considerable searching under our fridge). Her Christmas wishlist includes a Neko Fly toy. Her hobbies include, are not limited to, sitting on my husband's laptop keyboard, trying to sneak out the front door (she succeeded once and we found her hours later standing at the front door irritated that she had be ignored), and perfecting her gymnastics routine on our second floor "catwalk" overlooking the den.
