Ashes
is a constant source of entertainment to us! We gave her the name of
"Ashes" because of her gray color; however, she has earned the name by doing
anything and everything that rhymes with ashes: bashes, crashes, clashes,
dashes, gashes, hashes, lashes, mashes, gnashes, thrashes, splashes, slashes,
smashes, stashes, trashes, whiplashes ... She definitely lives up to her name.
She has other quirky behaviors like dragging a fox tail around, howling for
us to come find her; she insists on drinking from the tub or sink faucet; her
nervous system is dialed to very intense and she jumps at every unexpected
noise; when hungry, she uses her fixed stare until you comply and then she
chatters all the way to the food dish, rubbing every corner on the way; her
favorite thing is to hunt for grass in the woods and chase birds and
squirrels; when she wants to go outside, she vocalizes by yowling "let
ME-OWT" (me out); she snuggles and allows petting only on her own terms, but
once she is happy, her loud purr sounds like a motor not firing on all
cylinders; we count ourselves lucky if she curls up beside us. We love Ashes!
