Oopy, the Cat of the Day
Name: Oopy
Age: Deceased, Fifteen years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Russian Blue
Home: Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Oopy was always special to everyone. He was extremely affectionate, with a quiet disposition. His story began as an abandoned street cat born in a neighborhood woods. These cats would come up from the woods to houses where people would feed them, and my mom was one of those people. She often fed a black cat (Daddy) that would knock three times on her door for food. One day he brought my mom and sister a gift, a little gray friend. One morning when my mom and sister heard the usual three knocks on the door, they opened the door to daddy, beside him was a tiny little gray kitten. Daddy looked up at mom like, "I brought you a gift, can you feed him too?" My sister said to my mom, "oh look mom, it looks like a wolf!" Thus came about his real name of Wolfman Jack. They eventually nicknamed him Oopy. I am not sure how they came up with that name, it just fit him. My mom could not resist either one of them and kept them both!

Oopy lived a long life of fifteen years old. He was extremely affectionate and loving. He did not like to be held or was not a lap cat. He did not care for any sort of change like moving. He also way not very social,he was often weary of strangers. He was such a great companion for my mom as she aged. Every night at the same time he would lay beside my mom on the couch as she watched TV. He would remain a great companion to her for many years.

When Oopy was fourteen he developed stomach tumors that were cancerous. There was nothing that medically could have been done to save him. It was time to love him for a while and let him go. I became his nurse, administering his medications when he was ill. I would sing "you are my sunshine" when he was too weak to get up. In the end, whenever I left his side, he would go throughout the house crying "Hello!" It was so loud we thought it would wake the neighbors.

We waited till Christmas passed, then it was time to end his suffering. Oopy had slept with a bed full of stuffed animals. One of his favorites was a little dog. When squeezed, it lit up and barked, "I love you!" We would squeezing it to him and he would sleep with it. When Oopy passed away the toy dog broke, it no longer said, "I love you!" We finally found peace that he had peace. It was as though his little spirit or God was telling us that by silencing the dog. Did the dog just break? Who knows! We choose now to honor his life by remembering him and his favorite stuffed animal. A year passed and God brought us another special kitten, Lucy. Oopy will never be forgotten, he remains in our hearts as forever special.
