Billu
Bhai was given to us by a friend who couldn't move overseas (out of the
US) with a cat and we happily adopted him. He is what they call a Doll-face
Persian He's been a part of our little family since early 2010, so much so
that my mom calls him our half-baby (since we don't have any kids yet!). What
makes Billu unique is that he responds to both English and Urdu (official
language of Pakistan). We'll say "Billu, aajao," with a hand gesture to come
to us, and he'll make his way over (depending on his mood of course). His
favorite Urdu sentence is obviously when we ask if he wants to eat: "Billu,
khaana khaayein?" And he'll come running over and probably let us know with a
meow or two that he's huuuuuunnnngry and we just asked him the best question
ever! He loves cuddling with my husband, Sameer, at night especially when
we're sleeping, but in the morning when he's starving, he'll lightly tap my
face or arm and I can usually feel him breathing on my face while standing on
my stomach. That's his way of saying, "I'ma wake you up before your alarm
clock because I need to get my grub on!"
Weird facts about Billu Bhai: he loves olive oil & the smell of chocolate
(drools when he smells it but we obviously don't feed it to him). Billu Bhai
shows his affection towards me in a more subtle, quiet and sometimes sneaky
way with a nose-to-nose touch, whereas with Sameer, it's all about fun and
games and play. He's the love of our lives and we cherish every moment that
we get to spend with him at home.
If you are wondering about his name, Billu Bhai (or Brother Billu if I
translated his name to English; Billy = cat in Urdu, Billu is sort of a catty
nickname eh? :)!
