My
wife and I adopted Chairman Meow earlier this year (January 2013) from a
local no-kill animal shelter. He was given away after a divorce with his
previous parents. I have always loved orange cats and knew that we did not
want a kitten, so Chairman fit the bill perfectly. I really wanted a big,
orange, rough and tumble cat ... and that is exactly what I got! Chairman
Meow (a.k.a. Mr. Orange, a.k.a. Cat) is an approximately five-year-old orange
tabby. He is definitely not a snuggler or lap cat, but he still has a great
personality. He is very playful and puppy-like when he feels like it, but
mostly just likes to hang out in the same room with his family. They say that
everything is bigger in Texas! Weighing in at over 16.5 pounds (7.5 kg) of muscle,
Chairman Meow is as big and orange as they come.
Chairman has a quirky personality. His preferred sleeping location is next
to, or on top of any random inanimate object (e.g. a shoe, a phone charger,
the remote control, etc.). His new best friend is a green clown's wig that
accidentally fell out of a box when we were decorating for Halloween. He now
sleeps snuggled up with "Wig" each night. Also, Chairman does not know how to
purr! When he does "purr," he just rapidly breaths/hyperventilates, but we
get the gist.
Chairman Meow's least favorite things include the occasional bath, getting
his nails clipped, having the vet tech check his temperature, being asked to
leave a room, and being held for an extended period of time.
His favorite things include wet food, snooping & lurking, sticking his hands
under doors, rough play, walking along the stair banister, and going outside.
If he had it his way, he would come and go between outside and the house at
his leisure. Since he came to us declawed, for his safety we only allow him
short periods of supervised outside time. He has been a great cat and a
wonderful addition to our family. We just had our first baby on October 1st,
and Chairman is still trying to figure out what exactly is going on. He's
been very sweet so far, and really seems to like playing with all the new
baby stuff. We are hopeful that our Fur-Baby and the Belly-Baby will be great
friends for many years to come!
