As
weird as this may sound, I loved this little girl from the moment I first
looked in her beautiful green eyes.
A few years ago I used to work at a Sonic Drive-In as the night closer and it
was during the summer, so Sonic didn't close until midnight. We were slow
that night, and I still had an hour and a half to go before I could leave. I
was behind counter when I saw her, this small, dainty calico come onto the
front patio and head over to the garbage can.
I could tell she wasn't but a few months old, but she was small for her age.
Being someone who loves animals, especially cats, I stood there watching her.
After she was done rummaging through the garbage she made her way over to the
big window at the front of Sonic that overlooks the patio. Perching herself
on the ledge on the other side of the window she just sat there watching
people come and go. A few minutes later, ever so slowly she turned, looked
straight at me and held my gaze. It was as if she had been looking for me. In
that moment I knew I would take her home. I named her Echo, because as it
turned out the company next door had her sister, who they named Shindaiwa.
To this day I have never had a better cat. She is now three years old. She is my
shadow, a complete replica of my temperament and moods. I'd be lying if I
said I chose her, because the truth is, she chose me. And I appreciate that every day!
